About Me

I earned my Ph.D. in Comparative International Education and Economics from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Columbia University; and hold academic appointment as adjunct assistant professor at Teachers College of Columbia University where I teach graduate-level research methodology courses. Broadly, my research focuses on topics in labor and development economics, and sits at the intersection of teachers, learners, skills, and the economy.

 

Formerly, I worked for the World Bank as consultant on the World Development Report 2018 team (Link), the first of the Bank's flagship publication to spotlight on education in nearly 40 years. Check out my co-authored piece about this work (Link).

 

In my academic role, I co-edited a recent book Kuo Ping Wen: Scholar, Statesman, Reformer (Shanghai: Shanghai Far East Publishers, 2015; San Francisco: Long River Press, 2016). My research has been published in academic journals such as Oxford Review of Education, COMPARE: A Journal of Comparative and International Education, China Economics of Education Review, FIRE: Forum for International Research in Education on Education, Xinhua Wenzhai, Comparative Education Review (Beijing), Global Education (Shanghai). I am also  a contributing author to The Global Testing Culture: Shaping Education Policy, Perceptions, and Practice, part of the Oxford Studies in Comparative Education series (United Kingdom: Symposium Books, 2015), as well as Education Finance, Equality, and Equity, part of the Education, Equity, Economy series (Springer-Nature, 2018).

 

I write for media outlets such as China Education Daily, The Observer, Caixin News. In the past, I worked as consultant on education development projects through UNICEF, Asian Development Bank, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Education Development Trust (UK), etc.

 

I received my B.S. (2013) degree  from the University of Kansas and my M.A. (2014) and M.Phil (2018) degrees from Columbia University. 

关于刘骥

刘骥博士,2018年获哥伦比亚大学比较教育与经济学博士学位,同年应邀留校任教;现任哥伦比亚大学教育研究生院兼职助理教授、瑞士日内瓦大学研究生院客座研究员,曾任职于世界银行、亚洲发展银行、英国教育发展基金会等国际机构,并作为主要作者完成世行旗舰报告《2018世界发展报告》。

 

刘骥博士著有《郭秉文:教育家、政治家、改革先驱》(2015年由上海远东出版社出版,英文版2016年由旧金山China Books出版),分别于哥伦比亚大学C.V. Starr东亚图书馆和纽约佩斯大学孔子学院举办新书发布会,由国家汉办网、美国中文电视网、世界新闻网等多家机构报道。此外,刘骥博士任《比较教育前沿:中国教育经济学特刊》联合主编,并于《牛津大学教育评论》、《COMPARE》、《新华文摘》等国内外一流刊物发表学术文章20余篇,曾荣获纽约戴氏基金会教育研究奖、索罗斯基金会教育财政研究创新奖等。
